CHOCOLATE CHIP DATE CAKE

Pour 1 1/2 cups boiling water. Over 1 cup chopped dates. Add and let cool 1
teaspoon soda. 1/2 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
2 eggs
Add cooled date mixture. 1 1/2 c. flour
1/4 tsp. salt
3/4 tsp. soda
Combine with above and mix well. 1 pkg. chocolate chips
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. nut meats
Bake at 350 degrees for 35 to 45 minutes.
